The Tolkien Tag - 2016

It's that time again! The birthday of our beloved Hobbits, Bilbo and Frodo Baggins - and Hamlette's annual Tolkien blog party! Hop on over to her blog if you're a Tolkien addict, there's tons of fun going on over there! (be aware that I have spoilers for some of the Lord Of The Rings + Hobbit movies in this post. I warn you about them in the post, but ... just sayin'.)

1. How Many Books by J.R.R. Tolkien have you read?
Five - well, kind of. I read The Fellowship Of The Ring, The Two Towers, The Return Of The King, The Hobbit, and I skimmed through the Silmarillion. SO maybe it's more like four and a half.

2. Have You Seen Any Movies Based On Them?
All three Lord Of The Rings movies + the three Hobbit films. All of them are epic *nods*.

3. Are There Any Scene/Moments That Make You Cry?
Well, I never full-out cried when watching any of the movies or books (I just ... don't cry when it comes to books), but when *SPOILER* Thorin dies *END SPOILER* in Battle Of The Five Armies and when *SPOILER* Frodo leaves Middle Earth *END SPOILER* in Return Of The King ... well, I blinking away tears and trying not to cry the whole time.

4. Are There Any Scenes/Moments That Make You Laugh?
... mostly all of the amusing ones with Merry and Pippin :D.

5. Have You Ever Chosen A Middle Earth Name For Yourself? If So, What Is It?
Yes, I have (shows you how much of a Tolkien geek I am XD). My sisters and I all made up Elven names for each other - mine was Kaluinmir (I think. It had something or other to do with blue gems (my birthstone is a sapphire)).

6. Who Would You Want To Party With/Marry/Fight To The Death?
Party with? The four Hobbits (well, probably, anyways). Marry? None of them - sorry, I want things in Middle Earth to stay EXACTLY like they are. Me marrying one of the characters would mess it up XD. Fight to the death? Well, presuming I wouldn't be the one dying ... Saruman.

7. When Was The Last Time You Visited Middle Earth, Via Books Or Movies?
*scampers away and watches a bit of Return Of The King* Just three seconds ago :D.

8. Do You Consider Gollum To Be A Villain? Why Or Why Not?
Huh. This is a tough question. I would say ... no. He used to be good, but was tempted by the Ring and fell into darkness. You could see that Smeagol was fighting it, and the darkness was not entirely Gollum's fault. It was mostly the Ring's. So no, even though Gollum is bad, I wouldn't consider him truly a villain.

9. How Would You Sum Up What Tolkien's Stories Mean To You In One Word?
Inspiration. Tolkien's stories are an inspiration.

10. List Up Ten Of Your Favorite Lines/Quotes From The Books Or Movies.

... and we only scratched the surface :D.

<><><><>

Now, in honor of our favorite Baggins' ...

Happy Birthday, Bilbo And Frodo!

~ Savannah Grace

And all you Tolkien fans who wish you could really go to Middle Earth on this happy Hobbit day - check out this post, pronto. Just do it.

  1. Savannah, you opened a blog! Yah! Ooh, I am excited for this new development of yours. :D

In the meanwhile, I really liked this post. You just can't go wrong with Middle Earth, can you?! Love it all. Particularly the quotes. "My friends, you bow to no one." And Legolas and Gimli moments. Hahaha. They're hilarious!

P.S. You're gorgeous by the way! Your hair is enviable and you have such a sweet smile. Just thought I'd mention that. :D

    1. YES I did! I'm super excited too :D.

No, you most definitely can't *nods*. Legolas and Gimli are awesome - I wish they had done their friendship a little better in the movie!

(aw, thank you! I love putting my hair up in braids so that its kinky like that - despite the fact that it takes three hours to do so :D)

  2. Fun post! ^_^ You'd get along suuuuper well with two of my younger sisters, Sarah-Kate and Anna, if you were to meet them. (way younger than you though they be. xD) THEY ARE OBSESSED WITH THE LORD OF THE RINGS. :P I really like it too.

  4. All your pictures and collages!! :D I love those.

"I want things in Middle Earth to stay EXACTLY like they are. Me marrying one of the characters would mess it up." Haha, that is true.

Hmm, inspiration is a fitting word.

    Good answers! :)

I totally might have to do this tag!!! (As if I don't have dozens to do already....*sheepish grin*.....)

  6. You are the only one yet who mentioned the Silmarillion, at least by name. Definitely explains a TON of what is going one, including the differences between wood elves and high elves. It is very dark though. Yeah, a lot of people picked Faramir and Aragorn, who already HAVE ladies. But I think we can write ourselves in for those who don't or don't have named ones.Hah.

    1. Well, it is a little more obscure :). What I did skim of it did explain a lot - but it seemed a tad dry :D. I might try it again sometime and see if I can actually read through it all, just to say that I did.
EXACTLY! No one separates Aragorn and Arwen or Eowyn and Faramir *shakes head*.

That might be the best answer ever! I loved reading all your answers. The Legolas/Gimli exchange about the box always cracks me up.

  8. Ahh!! All the Middle Earth-ness!! I love it, Savannah.

BTW, where did your fourth quote, about Legolas, come from? Mary used it on her blog too, but I can't find it for the life of me!

Your birth stone is blue? Your favorite color! Ooh, that name is pretty! I want one now. . . ;-) Super random fact: I heard that Tauriel's name was crafted from one of Tolkien's languages, and means daughter or maiden of the forest. Isn't that lovely??

    Happy Hobbit Day!!

    1. Thanks, Hanna! I though that I was going to be lazy and not post today - but I couldn't help it XD.

      ... huh. Weird, I can't remember which book that's from ... I know it's FotR, but I can't quite remember where. *shrugs*

You should make one up! That'd be fun :D. And yes, Tauriel's name is SO pretty!

Happy Hobbit day to YOU, my elf-friend! :D

    2. It's from the Fellowship?? What? I've read that six times. . . and I didn't recognize that quote? Dear, dear. . . Anyway, thanks!

      Delete
    3. I THINK it's from the Fellowship. One of us will end up checking and then we'll know :D.

      Delete
    4. I don't think it's the Fellowship, because I went and read all of it after Legolas actually shoots a Nazgul, and I didn't find it. There's a few places in Two Towers and RotK that I want to check, but then I'm at a loss.

    5. WEIRD. I'm totally going to read the entire series over until I find it somewhere - it'll be fun :D.

  9. ACK *slams face into keyboard several times* HOW DARE I FORGET ABOUT THIS UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE. *distant sobbing* I feel like I've betrayed them all now.

MERRY AND PIPPIN. And Legolas and Gimli. I just love 'em so much. <3 xD And Savvy. I LOOOVE those quotes. Expect that the silly laptop won't load half of them. *glares* But I love the ones I can see, anyway. :)

I now feel like reading all the books just in celebration. Except. I'm. Too. Late. If only I could travel to America for the day. :P

    1. YES, HOW DARE XD. *gives you tissues*. Merry and Pippin don't mind *nods*.

BAD laptop *glares at it with you*. Ah well, at least you could read some of them :D. LotR has the BEST quotes.

Yeah, wouldn't that be weird? You'd be going back in time ... *tries to wrap mind around this fact*.

  11. Oh my goodness, I cracked up so much on your question about the most recent time you watched the movie, because I would have done the same thing. My friend has been pestering me to read Lord of the Rings, which I need to do, although I (gasp!) saw the movies in Janurary. I couldnt miss out on it though, because youth group was hosting it and we had all of the Hobbit meals. xD

    xoxo Morning

Oooh, Kaluinmir is such a pretty name! Mine was Lauriloth which means shining golden flower. But you may already know that since I used to go by that name on the internet. XD

Tolkien's stories are DEFINITELY an inspiration. Yes, yes, yes!

ALL THE QUOTES. *huggles them* The banters between Legolas and Gimli are just the best. XD

Look at us, posting the same tag on the same day! Braintwins! :D

*le gasp* YOUR ELVEN NAME IS GORGEOUS! I...don't have one. D: How exactly do you come up with one? We wants to have an Elf name, precious.

Good golly gosh, those quotessss. EEP. I could just read Tolkien quotes all. day. long. I love it that you included pictures of the quotes! ^_^

    1. We're awesome :D. *highfive*

THANK YOU! And YES, you musts make up an Elf name for yourself *nods*. Basically my sister looked in a Sindarin dictionary (http://www.jrrvf.com/hisweloke/sindar/online/sindar/dict-en-sd-strict.html), we picked out some words that made sense (mine were blue and gem, and something which I've forgotten, I think ...), and squished the elven translations together to make a name. If that make any sense at all XD.

QUOTES. Tolkien has the best quotes. He just does. And we only scratched the surface of how many quote-pictures I've squirreled away XD.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

    2. Well, thanks for ruining me. I just spent like 45 minutes trying to come up with the perfect Elf name. XD I finally decided on Merenglîr, which means "joyous song." I maaaay be obsessed with this now. *desperately wants to learn Sindarin*

      Delete
    3. You're welcome XD. OOOH Merenglîr is SO pretty! I'm totally calling you that now *nods*. I changed mine to Ivanneth - both because I forgot when Kaluinmir means, and because Ivanneth means September (my birth month).

Thanks for the comment, Merenglîr! :D
