17 Days Into NaNo - My Snippets

*realizes I've only posted twice during the whole of this month* I thoroughly blame NaNoWriMo for everything. I'm innocent, I tell you!

I even thought I had done a '3 Days Into NaNo' post earlier in November ... but apparently I didn't. Anyways. Now you're getting a '17 Days Into NaNo' post.

SO I'm a little lazy and I really should be writing. I'll give you a slew of snippets and be on my merry way *nodnod*. Also, these are entirely unedited. Just saying. Don't judge.

Oh, did I mention these are all from The Dreamer's Game? Well, they are. I'm still trying to beat that novel into shape. Not sure why *shrugs*.

Yup, and there are those. I'm finally at 30k words - and I feel like most of it is junk. But maybe I'll be able to save 1/4 of the final 50k. We'll see *nodnod*.

Sorry about my lack of posting this month, I'm afraid that my brain has been reduced to nothing by my insane novel *goes back to typing madly*.

Oh, and if I don't ever come back ... blame my novel.

~ Savannah Grace

What's the first sentence of your current novel? {and are you excited for Thanksgiving?! I AM)

  1. "Catania hardly dared to breathe as her brown eyes unblinkingly tracked every move of the unknowing stag."
I can't believe I just randomly gave you that.
You don't really have a history of writing junk, so I don't believe you. ;)
Hopefully you can get your novel under control. "I wish you all the luck in the world, I really do." I know what feisty novels are like--Catania's Forest is the most problematic story I've had yet.

    1. OH GRACIOUS, I can't believe you just gave that to me either *is astounded*. I can't wait until you start posting Catania's Forest on your blog so I can read the whole thing!

  2. Ooh, these are good! I really like the last two.

I am excited for Thanksgiving! There's so much baking and holiday stuff going on and I just love it. :)

And the first sentence of my NaNo novel is this one:

The door of Doctor Sheffield’s office closed with a soft creak.

    Happy NaNoing!

  3. EEEK SAVVY. I CANNOT SAY HOW MUCH I LOVED THOSE SNIPPETS. So much cool. If that's your definition of 'junk' then I think you'll do perfectly fine. I got shivers reading the first one. *throws confetti and pizza* They're all so epic!

This is my first sentence: "Undercover Agent Benjamin Kit had originally had a plan, but he’d left it behind before breaking into the Great Federation headquarters." I'm still trying to work out whether it's too long...but I figure that can happen in a later draft. 1sts are meant to be messy. I just keep reminding myself of that fact.

*hopes you don't die-by-novel* You're doing epicly Savvy. Don't think about the plot holes and mistakes and terribleness. Just get that story out of your brain and onto a document. You can do it. I know you can. *waves flag in the air*

Your first line made me grin - I can't wait until I'm able to beta-read your book! I don't think that first sentence is too long, but then again, that's only my opinion *shrugs*.

Yeah, dying death-by-novel is not high on my bucket list XD. *does not think of all the messiness in my novel and is very encouraged by your comment* *chases after that 50k mark*

Also, if it wasn't clear earlier, I WANT TO READ YOUR BOOK. SO BAD. *grabby hands*

  6. SAVANNAH. 30k?? You go, girl! And those snippets sound awesome. :D

Mmm, I'm totally feeling you on the motivation thing. And the feeling-like-my-story-is-junk thing. I had a big, beautiful outline that had so much heart, I felt... and then it disappeared when I started to write. Sigh. But I'm slowly... SLOWLY... regaining that heart, I think.

I hope those feelings grow less. BECAUSE YOUR STORY IS IMPORTANT. It came from your brain and only you can write it the way it's supposed to be written. Remember that.

*hugs* We should word war sometime! Don't forget the link to the chatroom I sent you. ;)

Isn't it so awful when a story does that? I'm so excited and then - the story's excitement dies right when I start *sighs*. You regain that heart, Emily Drown! YOUR STORY MUST BE WRITTEN *cheers you on*.

Aw, thank you so much, Emily! *hugs* I can't wait to hit the 50k mark *nodnod*.

Ooh, I wish I could war, but for some reason my computer doesn't like that chatroom :(. Oh well - maybe we'll figure out how to do it another way sometime.

YES THANKSGIVING. I am so excited xD.

Ugh, I'm not even where I should be with my wordcount, SO I TOTALLY GET IT. And the 'eveything is trash' mood hit me in week one XD. So yeah. It has been interesting. BUT WE WILL DO THIS, OH YES *nodnod*.

*accepts them all* *and shares the waffles, because we need writing fuel*

THE GAME IS GOING TO BE THE MOST EPIC THING EVER (with how awesome it is now...dare I imagine what it will be at the end...?) AND ANYTIME YOU NEED A PEP TALK I AM HERE. =)

  16. Oh, so it's a difficult story *grins*. The kind where they fight you every single step (word?) of the way but at the same time they won't let you go and you have to keep plugging along --- those are the most frustrating self-willed stories, but oddly enough they often end up being worth it. And sometimes you do have to scrap pieces of it --- but don't delete them. Hang onto them and maybe they'll find their way into another story. They do that sometimes.

I'm not doing NaNo, but the first sentence of the story I'm working on is: "The tale is still told of me that when I was a young thing of three or four, I left the clearing where I was supposed to be picking berries and ran down the track that led away from the house." I'm not sure how good an opening sentence it is, since I've read it several hundred times and I've got it memorized, so I've worn it out.

    1. YES. Every word. Oh well xD. And yes, I'm keeping most every bit of it - because otherwise I would remember a scene I had written and then I'd look for it everywhere only to find that I had deleted it. So I'm just not deleting anything :D.

I really like your first sentence, Sophia! It's so funny how us writers sometimes memorize the first sentences of our novels :D.

I love when my readers leave a comment or three (so thank you if you do!)! But keep 'em clean, because I don't want to need to delete them. And check back - I always try to reply.
