7 Books For Your Fall Reading List + 7 Books On Mine

The beautiful season of AUTUMN has arrived, you guys! Finally, we can stop melting in the Summer heat but I bet I'll be begging to get the lazy days of Summer back soon enough  It's now time to break out the pumpkin spice, the warm sweaters, and the 600-page adventure books.

(need more book recommendations? I did a post on 7 books for your summer reading list too, back in June. And I won't be adding any of those books to this list, even though the Harry Potter series basically screams 'Fall read' xD)

7 books for your fall reading list + 7 on mine

Fall stories are giant, adventurous, beautiful YA books that you'll want to dig into while curled up in a comfy chair, because it's going to be a LONG read (which will probably keep you up into the wee hours of the morning). Fall's the perfect time to find those big books and series that are a little too heavy for the binge-reading months of Summer - so here I am to shove seven Autumn-perfect books on your tbr!

the fellowship of the ring book picture

And of COURSE this one's on the list! Honestly, it's the first book that comes to my mind when I think 'Fall books' - though Harry Potter DOES trot along pretty close behind it! xD

The entire journey starts in the Fall (September 22nd, to be exact), and it just feels like a Fall trilogy! And of course there's plenty of adventure involved, so The Lord Of The Rings is an epic book to read when the leaves start falling ;).

the girl who drank the moon book picture

I just read The Girl Who Drank The Moon last month, and I can TOTALLY see why it won a Newberry award! (don't be fooled by the absence of The Gold Sticker on my copy of this book - our library copy has a beautiful Newberry award on the front xD)

It's a beautiful, adventurous book with just a touch of mystery around it. It'd be the perfect thing to crack open and start on a beautiful Fall night. And it's not a MASSIVE book (though it still is a pretty good size), for all of you who are daunted by all the 600-page books that decide to make appearances in the Fall xD.

inkheart book picture

Three great, big, thick books that are all ABOUT a special book? Yes, please! The Inkheart trilogy is absolutely perfect for this list (and you actually have the chance to win it, as I'm currently holding a contest in which Inkheart is the prize!).

The characters in this trilogy are amazing, I love them so much. And Inkheart just has a Fall FEEL to it! It definitely deserves a spot on your Fall tbr. And each book in the trilogy is pretty big, so make sure you have a lot of time on your hands before you dig into this series!

inheritance book picture

So, Eragon gets a lot of hate half the time. I don't know why. I can definitely see where people are coming from (because yes, the cycle DOES start off like Star Wars), but still! It's a very creative series, the prose is beautiful, and it's the perfect (GIANT) series to dig into during Autumn.

Also ... it has dragons. Everything is better when dragons are involved xD.

the boy who lost fairyland book picture

Alright, so I DID include a book from this series in my Summer recommendations list (The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland In A Ship Of Her Own making - which I'm giving away a copy of right now!), but I'm going to mention this one anyways. It's the fourth book in the series, and even though it's on the shorter side, it would still make an epic fall read (especially for those of you who don't have the time to commit to a massive series!).

But I should warn you that it's not really a standalone, so you'll ... uh, have to read the whole series. *piles it onto your tbr*

the clockwork three book picture

Okay tell me that cover doesn't make it a Fall read. Just look at the color scheme going on <3. But besides that (can anyone tell I'm mildly biased by cover love? xD), The Clockwork Three is an amazing read. The characters are some of the best I've read, I love them so much <3.

And besides the epic characters, The Clockwork Three has an INCREDIBLE plot! I can't tell you much without giving away spoilers, but this is definitely a book you're going to want to read this Fall ;).

the unwanteds book picture

I kid you not, this series could probably keep you busy for a good deal of Fall. It's eight books long, and all the books are MASSIVE (as in the-last-books-in-the-Harry-Potter-series massive). The Unwanteds series is MG dystopian, but it's nothing like your typical dystopian series, so I LOVE it.

Also ... all the covers in this series are seriously epic. Just sayin' xD.

And now that I've shown you guys seven gorgeous books for YOUR tbr, shall we take a peek at seven on mine? I'm only featuring the books that I physically have in my house right now, so this is only a teeny portion of what I hope to read this Fall ...

fall books collage
+ Splintered by A.G. Howard

And like I said, these are only the books that I physically have right now, so I couldn't include the ones I'm still waiting for (*cough* The Color Project and Renegades *cough*) - which might be a good thing, because then my tbr would be a mile long! And ... I actually managed to finish one of these seven books before I finished this post. Oops? But Forest Born was an amazing read, so I don't even care xD.

The Scorpio Races and Four (and Splintered) are actually books that I've owned for a little while now, and I STILL haven't read them, so I definitely need to (especially with how much everyone races about Maggie Stiefvater's writing)! Jackaby, Forbidden, and Emissary are three books that I picked up from the library (WHICH MEANS READING DEADLINES), and I'm super excited to dig into them! I have a very distinct feeling that all of these are going to be amazing.

ANYWAYS. I'm really really excited to read these books! They look like the perfect books for Autumn, and I'm already ready to curl up in a chair on a Fall evening and finish these gorgeous things.

Have an epic Fall of reading, my friends!

    1. TBRs are so fun to put together, I'm glad you like looking at them! And doesn't it just sound lovely? That's half the reason I'm excited for Fall! :D

  2. I am not coming up with a fall tbr but of course there are titles on the unofficial list xD definitely the Inkheart trilogy is on! I actually adventured through Lord of the Rings last autumn and I'll say IT WAS GREAT. But all your recommendations sound fantastic.

AND GO READ SCORPIO RACES IT IS A TOP FAVE FIVE STAR BOOK OF MINE. And I have read Forbidden and it was creepy and suspenseful and really Ted Dekker-ish. But I thought it was really similar to Circle/Lost Books? (Also read the Lost Books series after you are done with Circle!)

    Awesome post. As usual.

P.s. you described fall so gorgeously <3

    1. Ooh, you read Lord Of The Rings last autumn?? That's so cool! *highfives* Have you seen the movies yet?

OKAY YUP I'LL DO THAT - *moves The Scorpio Races higher on my tbr* xD. I can't wait to finish Forbidden! I'm super excited to see what I think of it. (and YES, the Lost Books! I actually read the first two or three awhile back before realizing that the Circle trilogy was supposed to come first! xD But I can't wait to start on that series again)

      Thanks for commenting, Lisa! <3

    2. *highfives back* I wish. I've seen most of The Fellowship ... but I have the issue of younger siblings who find somethings low-key frightening and parents who don't want to them to have nightmares or see ugly fantasy creatures. Unfortunately LotR movies are on the shelf for now :P

  3. Inkheart = The perfect book for fall. I adore the Unwanteds, but I think that Inkheart really embodies that Curl-Up-With-A-Book-And-A-Hot-Mug-Of-Tea. <3

I really must read The Boy Who Lost Fairyland. (also YES SCORPIO RACES IS SO GOOD. MAGGIE STIEFVATER IS A GODDESS)

    1. EXACTLY. The cover even makes it look like a Fall book! It's just gorgeous <3.

YES. READ IT. I'll read Scorpio if you read the Fairyland series (who am I kidding, I'll read it anyways xD).

  4. Ooh, LOTR is definitely a fall book! Middle-earth is such a (mostly) cozy storyworld, and it just fits those chilly days so well. The Scorpio Races is the only one of her books I've read, but it really does feel like an autumn book :D

I don't really have a fall reading list, though I'm also looking forward to Renegades!

    1. It most certainly is! And with how much everyone is saying that they love The Scorpio Races, I'm even MORE excited to read it! Thanks for commenting, Jameson <3.

  5. Yes, Fellowship of the Ring and Inkheat are definitely two books that should be on this list! Curling up with Tolkien and following the hobbits out of the Shire is a perfect activity for a fall day. (And Bilbo and Frodo's birthdays are soon! Must mark my calendar!) And I should really read Inkheart again - it's been so long since I've picked it up. But you've just added so many books to my to read list - I don't know which one to start with!

    1. Curling up with Tolkien and the hobbits is basically the DEFINITION of a bookish Fall! :D I hope you have time to reread Inkheart this Fall, it's such a lovely book <3. Thanks for commenting, Vera!

  6. I'd love to read these - but I have no time. Would you ever consider doing a post on how to balance school and reading? And I TOTALLY agree with LOTR!! It always feels slightly grey and November-y to me. Pleasant shivers.

    1. Ooh, how to juggle school and reading is actually a wonderful post idea - thank you! I'll try to touch on that subject sometime in the next month or two ;).

  7. I really really need to make more time for reading. I keep trying...but then somehow I don't?? I don't know why. *sighs* I love reading. Whyyy can't I just read?? It's getting to the point where if the book isn't the absolutely most epic book ever I get bored and uninspired to read. WHY, OH MY BRAIN, ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME? *cries*

Anyways. All these books look rather cool. Even though it's not fall for me. :P *casually adds a few more books onto my tbr*

    1. We really do need to find a time machine. It would be so helpful xD. (I'LL SHIP IT TO AUSTRALIA IF I GET MY HANDS ON ONE) And AWK, what IS your brain doing to you? You need to get your hands on more epic books, Prill. *shoves the Mark Of The Thief trilogy towards you*

... I keep forgetting that Australia's seasons are different xD. Which one are you in right now? Spring? *ponders*

  8. Let's see... I've read Fellowship and Inkheart, and Divergent. I think I've read Forest Born... but it's been so long since I read the Bayern books, and there were such gaps of time between them that I'm not sure. I need to go re-read those.

All of these (except maybe Inheritance) look awesome!!! I will have to put them on my TBR if they're not there already!! Thanks for the recommendations!

What a lovely, cozy, autumnal book post!! Love it!

    1. You've read pretty much half of this list! *highfive* And I agree about needing to reread the Bayern books - I never even read Enna Burning or River Secrets, so I guess I should start on that? xD

You're welcome! Have an epic Fall, Jenelle <3.

  10. All of these look so fun! Also I have read the first three books of the unwanted series and I seriously loved them. Like as much as I liked Harry Potter or the hunger games which is saying something. Now I'm just waiting for my library to get the fourth book. Haha. Awesome list!

    1. Isn't it GOOD though? I only own the fourth book (kind of ironic, as it's the only one you can't get xD), so I'm currently reading it and remembering how much I liked that series! *highfives fellow fan* Have you requested for your library to buy it yet? I hope they get it soon! It's SO GOOD, you'll love it.

  11. Now I need to go to the library and get some more books...:) I LOVE Maggie Stiefvater--I just finished her Raven Cycle series and it was amazing! I need to read "The Scorpio Races."
I'm reading "The Fellowship of the Ring"! Very autumn-ish. :)
    Great post! :)

    1. as Nicole said, Maggie Stiefvater's books usually have a fair amount of language (ugh WHY??), especially the second Raven Cycle book. Other than that, the Raven books are really good, except for a sudden relationship in the last book which was very surprising.

      Delete
    2. I've heard SO MUCH about the Raven Cycle, so maybe I'll read it after I finish The Scorpio Races? We shall see! :D (and thanks for the content warning - I like knowing what I'm getting into before I start a book ;))

Ooh, you're currently reading it? Awesome! You're starting off your Fall reading right ;).

  12. I will definitely be adding many of these books onto my TBR list! (if they can fit. Who cares? There's always room for more! XD) Oh, oh, oh, and the Scorpio Races—GAAHH I love that book sooooo much! It's an AMAZING story, and just so perfect with the way the character relationships are built. The only forewarning I would give you is that there is a good portion of inappropriate language. Otherwise, it's worth the time! :D

    1. We bookdragons have perfected the art of shoving WAY more books than should be possible onto one tbr xD. And I'm SO EXCITED to read the Scorpio Races! I'll definitely be doing a review of it after I finish ;). (and thanks for the content caution! It's nice to know what I'm getting into)

  13. Ahhhh I love the Clockwork Three and Forest Born! They're so goooood. And I got Forest Born signed this June and had some great convos with the author and just AHHH. So good. I also just got my copy of The Color Project and IT IS SO GOOD YOU NEED IT IN YOUR LIFE.

*glances at all the recommended books* *glances at stack of books already in TBR* JESUS HELP ME *adds ALL THE BOOKS because YOLO*

    1. I KNOW. I don't understand why I waited to read Forest Born for so long? I've owned it for months? And AWK, YOU GOT IT SIGNED *jealous* xD. I need to make it to one of the Minneapolis Young Writers conferences at some point! (and YES, I NEED THE COLOR PROJECT. Because not only does it sound lovely, but it's BEAUTIFUL <3)

GOOD LUCK, DON'T DROWN IN BOOKS.

  15. GOODNESS ME I've totally not been around here. O.o I missed this little space! Life has been the definition of hectic, and reading blogs has totally fled my mind. (I started private school for the first time after being homeschooled my whole life + the school year so far has given me no time to breathe.)

It appears I'm late to the party! CONGRATS on your blogoversary, and I think I might just be able to submit a little something for that contest... we'll see. ;)

OH LOOK MORE FABULOUS BOOKS FOR MY TBR. As if I didn't already have zero time to read... *sigh* I love your photos, by the way!
