   If I hadn't been sick when I received the cover image, I'd have been shrieking and bouncing off the walls when I saw it (which was my actual reaction when I heard that Nadine was being published by Thomas Nelson/Harpercollins xD) - but as it was, I had to do all bouncing and shrieking inwardly xD.

   THE GORGEOUS COVER OF FAWKES  

Thomas Fawkes is turning to stone, and the only cure to the Stone Plague is to join his father’s plot to assassinate the king of England.

   *is practically bouncing with excitement as I write this* Doesn't the cover look incredible?! I had so many expectations for Fawkes' cover (because it's a Nadine book, and the covers for her Out Of Time trilogy are killer), and it absolutely met them all! ALSO IT'S BLUE. I GET TO BUY A NEW BLUE BOOK IN JULY. I'M SO EXCITED, I COULD DIE. All the cover-love for blue books. <3 <3 <3. And not only is this one a blue book, it's a NADINE BRANDES BOOK. Her Out Of Time trilogy is one of the best trilogies I've ever read, so I'm over the moon about getting a new Nadine-book in July! *all the flailing*

   And to top off all this excitement, there's a giveaway for an ARC copy of Fawkes! (also, admit it - that title is epic. It will also always make me think of the phoenix Fawkes from Harry Potter xD)

Book Review - The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

 
   So I finally finished The Scorpio Races, and now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to get to it! While there were a couple things I didn't like, overall it was a wonderful book. Want to hear more about it?

you'll have to forgive me for reusing a title image - but I'm sick, and don't have the motivation to take a new one xD

   I though I'd never get out of my reading slump, and then I get my hands on a five star book. Go figure xD. That's not to say that I liked everything in this book (*points down at the "disliked things" section*), but  overall, it was amazing. It earned those five stars.

   - The prose. The prose in The Scorpio Races was gorgeous. And not only was it gorgeous, it felt real - like actual people would have spoken those words. It was beautiful, and so easy to read. Loved it. <3 Also, can we talk about that line on the back cover of the book? "It was the first of November and so, today ... someone will die." I CAN'T. That line is absolutely what got me hooked on The Scorpio Races. (plus, the prose made the book have this certain feel that was just amazing)

   - The characters. I haven't read a book with characters this real for quite awhile. Sean and Puck were both amazing, and I honestly couldn't decide who was the main character? At first I thought it was Puck, then I thought it might have been Sean ... in the end, I settled by deciding that they could both be the main characters, for all I cared xD. I loved them both!

   - The capaill uisce. I've always wanted to read (or write!) a story that had something to do with kelpies, because they're not used enough in fiction. So when I saw that The Scorpio Races was about the capaill uisce, I was very excited. And Stiefvater did so well with them! I'd talk about it more, but I'd get into very spoiler-y territory, so ... nope. 

   - It got me out of my reading slump. I owe the book. <3

   - It, ah ... wasn't the cleanest. A fair amount of bad language was used, and (seeing as one of the biggest factors in the book was flesh-eating horses) there was a good amount of gore. Now, I don't know everyone's convictions when it comes to reading, but I would only recommend this to ages 16+.

   I now understand why everyone raves about Maggie Stiefvater's books - she's got an incredible talent for writing and storytelling. I can't wait to get my hands on another of her books!

A Call For Betas // Asher Grey

   So, I'm finally taking the jump. Who wants to beta Asher Grey?

   Before you skip down to fill out the form for beta reading at the end of this post, you probably want to know some more about the story, huh? Well, I'll be nice, and not let you all jump in blind xD. I did a post about it last month (and there's some stuff about it on my 'writings' page), but here's some more info ...

- the book is currently 30k words long (I've already cut 15k from it and I still need to cut more, so #help)

- it's a Snow White retelling

- I'll send it to you on the 8th of November, and the deadline to finish it is the 22nd of November (exactly two weeks after, so plenty of time, seeing as Asher Grey is a teeny little book)

- I probably won't be able to accept all the betas who fill out the form. I know, I know - it's strange, and wish I could let all of you read it and help with the editing process, but I just don't have the time for that many betas right now. So probably ten-or-so of you guys who fill out the form will actually be able to read it. I'm so sorry!

   ... and I think that's about it. If you guys have any more questions, leave a comment, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Whether or not you're actually able to beta, your interest in my story means so much to me - you guys are the best! <3
