Infinity Dreams Award - Vlog Style (+ Guest)

February 4, 2017

I figured it was time to honor your requests - want to take a random guess as to who the guest is?

post header picture for the infinity dream award vlog

So, after much persuasion (read: Ariel asked me if she could and I said yes) - here is a vlog featuring my lovely sister! Tracey Dyck tagged me for this awhile back, and I finally decided to do it xD. I would suggest turning up the video quality if you can - otherwise the lighting might be weird.

AND it's also Ariel's birthday today - so this was half a present for her, and half for y'all, you could say ;). Hope you enjoy! (and if the video doesn't want to play, hit the arrow in the corner. It'll help)

I tag anyone who has yet to do a vlog - seriously, they're lots of fun! You can hop on over to Tracey's post to see what all of the original questions were ;). And be checking back here for my new post in the "How To Liven Up Your Character" series - which will be up in the next week or so. It may or may not be about villains *whistles innocently*.

What's one of your biggest pet peeves as a reader? What's one book that has changed your life?

  1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ARIEL! You guys were so fun in the vlog (and I do think you should have a public blog, Ariel ;-) )

My biggest pet peeve as a reader? I think it's a tie between too many adverbs and WAY too many "saids." Those just...ugh! I've only read a few books that have the amount that bugs me, but yeah :P

A book that changed my life...in nonficiton, it would be Do Hard Things, by Alex and Brett Harris, and in fiction it would be a tie between Bones of Makaidos, Bryan Davis, and Resistance, Jaye L. Knight. Those were the first times when I was blown away by the power of Christian fiction.

That was a long comment O.O Anyway, great vlog!!! :D

    1. AWK thank you, Audrey!! (yep, hehe, Savannah keeps trying to convince me...but I don't feel like that's God's plan for me. =) Yet. xD Maybe it'll change, maybe it won't, all I know is that He knows what He's doing! I'm just along for the ride. =))

    2. Thank you, Audrey, glad you enjoyed! :D Adverbs USED to not bother me in stories (read: a few years ago) but then I learned about rules in writing. Now I cringe when a book is a treasure trove of adverbs xD.

Ooh, I've read all those books you mention and YES they are epic. I especially love Jaye L. Knight's books - her characters are wonderful. Isn't Christian fiction amazing?

  2. Oh my gosh, you two are ADORABLE, okay?! I loved watching this. <3333

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ARIEL!!! I'm so thrilled that you were in the vlog! You were so cute and bubbly and yep, you totally need to do another vlog. SERIOUSLY.

AND LISTEN TO SAVANNAH. YOU NEED A PUBLIC BLOG.

  3. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ARIEL!!! I loved this blog. You guys need to totally do this again. Ariel needs to be on a vlog again xD
Hmmm...one of my biggest pet peeves as a reader is when the cover of a book has a picture of a character and it is poorly done. I don't like looking at the covers of books that have one of the characters on it because I always imagine it differently.
One book that changed my life is Petey by Ben Mikaelson. It made me see life in a different perspective and made me change the way I saw people. Also, the last part of the book Frenzy. That book is in the Dream House Kings serious. In the book, they went in a portal and went where Jesus died on the cross. They met him before that and it was so touching. You should read that series and Petey. They are amazing books. :)

    2. I totally agree - incorrect representation of a character is super annoying. Especially when an author makes a point about how the character looks, and yet the cover STILL gets it wrong >:(.

I'll definitely be looking into both Petey and the Dream House Kings series! They sound like they'd be amazing - and I'm always on the hunt for great new books ;). I'm glad you enjoyed the vlog, LHE!

Than you Ariel! (we need to do mental work again) *wink wink*

A pet peeve as a reader..... Probably when the writing of a book is SO GOOD, but it does pictures that are.....not. Lol! xD
Hmmmm. Changed my life.... Probably the Dreamhouse Kings series by Robert Liparulo. It's AWESOME!!!

  10. Happy birthday, Ariel! Hope your day was great!
I DEFINITELY want you back in another vlog!!
And YES, YOU NEED A PUBLIC BLOG, PERIOD. I want to link to you. . . :(

Oh my word, Savannah, I totally agree with you about characters! Characters carry a story for me, and if I don't like any of them, the story just feels. . . blah. "Cardboard cutout characters." Yes! :)
BTW, I think you're characters are AWESOME, so you're more than halfway there. (And your plots aren't bad either. So in other words, you're rocking this!)

Books that have changed my life? This feels like a no-brainer for me, but Lord of the Rings. Really though, those books are SO beautiful, and so inspiring. We were just talking about goals recently, and I told my family one of my goals is to write something that blesses someone as much as the L.R. has blessed me. Wishful thinking I know, but who says a girl can't dream?
Another book that has REALLY impacted me is Falling Free by Shannan Martin (shannanmartinwrites.com) I think that book has inspired me more than any other nonfiction I've read.

YES Lord Of The Rings - those books are so amazing. You can always rely on my to recommend those books to any fantasy-lovers xD. And, knowing you and your writing, I think your goal will definitely be achieved some day. Never stop dreaming, girl!

Ooh, I'll have to check out Falling Free! The title intrigues me ;).

    3. Aw, thanks. I won't stop. ;-)

You really should! It inspired me SO much.
It might be one your parents would want to preview though? I loved the author's perspective on everything, but she does talk about some mature topics a couple times.

  11. YOU GUYS ARE SO ADORABLE TOGETHER! And happy birthday, Ariel! :D Seriously, sisters are the best. (although I am the oldest of five girls and still manage to be the tallest, happily. :P)

Ack, Ariel, how can you love storms? They freak me out. I live on an Alabama mountain, and a tornado touched down in the state park really close to my house. The world seemed permanently lit up with electric blue because of how much lighting there was. Too scary for me! xP

I so wish I could see your private blog, too! I'm really interested in the post you mentioned that you were going to put up. :)

CUZ THEY'RE SO EXCITING. Oh my. I would say I'm jealous. But I don't know about that. =\ I loooove storms and tornado warnings, but I have my own little bubble, and if a tornado gets to close, then that bubble will burst. (it's only burst once or twice, though ;))
      Wanna be invited? ;)

    2. Aren't sisters so epic? :D And OH MY - even though that storm you were in sounds TERRIFYING ... it also sounds just a little bit epic xD. Totally would have gained story inspiration from it *nodnod*.

    3. Actually, I think story inspiration was scared right out of me. xD

(ooh, I would love that, Ariel! But you do what works for you. :D Pretty sure Savannah has my email address. ;)

  12. Happy, happy birthday, Ariel! I hope your next year of life is blessed one!

A book that has changed my life... The Bible, hands down. =D My biggest pet peeve is over use of adjectives and speech tags... Which I blogged about. xD

    1. THANKS, GIRL!!! I am most certain it will be! =)
      -Ariel

    2. YES THE BIBLE - obviously ;). Two many speech tags can be annoying, but I find too LITTLE speech tags to be just as much so. Floating Heads is not a fun disease for a story to have xD.

  13. OH MY GOODNESS, YOU GUYS ARE PRECIOUS. You remind me of my sisters a little bit. It's obvious you have fun together! XD

Happy birthday, Ariel! Hope you had a fantabulous day! And Savannah, it was so fun watching your vlog! Thanks for the links, both here and in your last post. Your enthusiasm is the best. ^___^

I so agree about characters making up for a lack of plot! Ideally, I'd like a healthy serving of BOTH, but if one is skimped on, it better not be characters.

  15. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ARIEL!! :D

And I agree, it's pretty much impossible to choose just one song. I have like fifty favorite songs. XD

I hate book curling too! My siblings always do it when I let them borrow a book. :P Though, they are quite a bit younger than me, so I guess it's understandable. Another one is when a book cover is super shiny when you first get it, but when you read it, you get fingerprints all over it and it's...not so shiny anymore. XD

Can't wait to read that villainous post... *laughs evilly*

  16. ARIEL AND SAVANNAH TOGETHER. THIS IS THE GREATEST!!!! I was just sitting here grinning the whole time while watching.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ARIEL. *brings out hobbit-sized cake and dragon fireworks* I do so hope your birthday was absolutely fantastical!!!

Ariel, listen to your big sis. You need to make your blog public! Also, FELLOW EXTROVERT. *high-fives* I'm an ENFJ/ESFJ. I'm literally split down the middle on the N and S, because my personality apparently can't make up its mind WHAT it is. XD But still, EXTROVERTS. Hanging out with people would be my perfect day as well. Although reading and writing (without writer's block) sounds like a dream. Either would be great!

My biggest pet peeve is the same as yours, Savannah. Cardboard characters. UGH. The characters are EVERYTHING. And The Hobbit changed my life. It introduced me to my great love for fantasy, and has basically shaped everything I do and love. XD

You girls MUST do more of these. I just loved it!

I really do need to start praying more about this idea of having a public blog...maybe God is speaking through you guys in some way. AND YES. #extrovertsunite YOU AND I NEED TO HANG OUT, GIRL.
YUSSSS WE NEED TO DO MORE VLOGS!! (and you need to do one too...I WANT TO SEE YOUR BEAUTIFUL FACE SPEAK TO US. xD)

    2. So glad this made you smile, Lauri! :D

*shudders at the thought* Cardboard characters will, overall, wreck a story for me. Stories with characters like that never get a very high rating from me, just saying xD. And OH MY, THE HOBBIT - it basically introduced me to the very epic fantasy world, too. I owe a lot to J.R.R. Tolkien ;).

  17. "I have to treat her books like gold." That made me laugh so much, because I am SO PICKY about my books and if my sister borrows one, I watch her like a hawk to make sure that she doesn't bend the cover. xD
