The Tag Pool - In Which I Catch Up

March 15, 2017

So ... I slacked on tags. I love doing tags, but sometimes they get pushed onto the back burner when I have other posts scheduled. But today I'm fixing that by pooling questions from some of the tags and doing them all together ;). Thank you to Shantelle, Evangeline, Madeline, Brianna, and Skylar (private blog) - for tagging me for these.

The Tag Pool Header Image

What is a movie that inspires you?

Oh, dear me - inspires me in what way? I guess The Hobbit has always inspired me to write epic adventures, seeing as the whole trilogy is an epic adventure. I've watched those movies far too much xD.  And Pete's Dragon (the new, live-action one) inspired me to write characters with more depth. I LOVE how each character in that movie had a purpose and different goals.

What is a song that makes you happy?

A legit, already-out-in-the-world song? (sadly the songs my sister has written don't fit into this category but they always make me happy) Definitely Long Live, by For King And Country - even if it is only one out of many ;). My favorite song changes everyday, but this one has been on repeat lately.

What is a book that made you cry?

I have never cried over a book. If I can ever find a book that makes me cry literal tears, I will applaud the author and promote the thing. I need to find a book that can legit make me cry, you guys xD.

What is a book that you read a lot when you were younger?

Younger-me probably didn't read as many books as older-me, but I still read a lot. And one of the ones that I specifically remember is Strange Birds, by Judith Heide Gilliland. I don't know of a single person who has heard of this book, but I read it so many times when I was younger. Sometimes I still pick it up, just because it's fun remembering reading it for the first time ;).

What is a movie that kept you on the edge of your seat?

Here is where we run into a problem. A lot of my favorite movies are movies based off of books, which means that I know what will happen next xD. I guess I would have to say Battle Of The Five Armies, since they were SO DIFFERENT from the book that I wasn't entirely sure what would happen ;).

What is a book that left you breathless?

I've read a lot of books that have me turning pages so fast that my eyes cross, but only a few books make me walk away going 'I literally feel winded'. Thing is, my goldfish brain refuses to remember what those 'few books' were xD. I'd bet that it was probably a Harry Potter or a Hunger Games book, though.

Who are three of your favorite screen characters?

Three of my favorite screen characters, not my top three. That would be way too hard, even if I don't watch that many movies xD. I'd have to say (and these are only from movies I've watched more recently) ...  Bilbo, Lucy, and ... probably Elliot.

Elliot from the 2016 Pete's Dragon
via Google Images

Do not question why only one character on my list is human. I don't have an answer xD.

What are two life lessons you've learned from a fantasy book/movie?

One lesson I've learned is that the pen is indeed sharper than the sword. A sword has the power to hurt you physically and mostly momentarily - a pen has the power to write a book that lasts through decades and can change lives. A pen has the power to hurt you emotionally. Also, I wasn't chased into the writing life by a sword. I was chased by an ink-filled pen xD.

The second lesson is that love is a more powerful asset than we think it is - and I'm pretty sure that the Harry Potter series taught me this. We see the affects of Lily Potter's sacrifice so many times, and it always reminds me that love is sometimes more powerful than anything else.

Who are the 5 people that have influenced you the most (good or bad)?

We're going with people who have been good influence. That seems better to me. Obviously my parents and siblings have had some of the biggest influences - but if I listed all my family members, I would definitely go over the '5 people' limit. So we're not doing that xD.

My friends, Becca and Hanna, have influenced me in both my Christian walk and my writer-ly passions. Anne Elisabeth Stengl (though she doesn't know it) gave me a gift in her books. I would never have pursued writing the way I am now without The Tales Of Goldstone Wood, trust me. And then there's all you writers out there who inspire me to keep writing even when it's hard. You guys are the bomb ;).

... guess that kind of exceeded the five people limit anyways, huh? Well, I suppose we'll just end there then xD.

How would you describe yourself (personality and appearance)?

Savannah is a 5' 2" girl who wishes she was taller so she could reach the books on the highest library shelves. She has thick, dark hair that's terribly unruly, but most of the time she doesn't care. She's one third Koren and proud of it - partially because of her great love for many Korean foods. She's either a very hyper ball of energy, or very quiet. This probably means that she's pondering something, and there's a good chance that it's her stories. And she's ISTP - which means she's an introvert, but trust me, she gets louder once you really know her.
Do not interrupt her when she's writing. She may or may not be part dragon.

WHOA so there's a little third-person jaunt for you today. You're welcome xD.

How would a family member or friend describe you?

Oh dear. *hands the computer to my sister*

Ariel: HEY THERE PEEPS. *rubs hands together and cackles evilly* Savannah isn't even watching over my shoulder, so I can say WHATEVER I WANT. xD Kidding, kidding....she's pretty awesome, so let's see what sort of rambling I can do...
I would describe her personality as quiet and mature when she is in a group of people she is not super familiar with...she really is never the center of attention and is content to sit in the back round and chat with some people like a mature and proper young lady while I am running around on the play-ground with the five and six year olds. ;)
You really get to see Savannah's best side when she's hanging with her sisters. Because THEN *points up* she does get louder when you really get to know her. Trust me, I've been living with her for all fifteen of my living years, and I can vouch. If you only saw her when she was with her siblings, you might peg her as an extrovert. *cue astonished gasps*
She's SUPER competitive. She wins a lot of games. Against me.
And she is so pretty too. Complexion is perfect (unlike mine... *sheepish laugh*) and her HAIR. My land, it's just so pwettyyyyy....
Anywho, those are my ramblings about this lovely sister of mine. Until next time, God bless all you awesome human beans!! *disappears in a puff of smoke*

*Savannah snatches computer back* OH GRACIOUS that was the sweetest - thanks, girl! <3

Night-owl or Morning-Human?

BOTH. I love getting up early in the morning and writing for an hour or so before the family wakes up - but I get my best ideas at night (most of the time). So let's say that I live on a little less sleep than the rest of my siblings do xD.

What are three of your favorite quotes?

Having a bad day? Put your hand to your heart. Feel that? That's called purpose. Don't give up.

If it's still in your mind, it is worth taking the risk. - Paulo Coelho

There is freedom waiting for you, On the breezes of the sky, And you ask "What if I fall?" Oh but my darling, What if you fly? - Erin Hanson

So I think I'm a little bit more on track where tags are concerned - I hope you enjoyed this! I'm not tagging anyone (... seeing as this was basically a mash up of multiple tags ...) but do check out the blogs of the people who tagged me! Maybe they'll let you steal them ;).

So, now I'm curious - do you have a favorite screen character? What's one of your favorite quotes?

  1. No, none of the characters on your list are human! Spare Oomians are a peculiar sort, aren't they? I'm sure they'll be the ones who will recommend the book that will make you cry, though-- they've got a good taste in that kind thing (as well as Turkish Delights)!

  3. When you said Lucy for a favourite character, is that Lucy Pevensie? Bilbo certainly is brilliant (Martin Freeman did such a good job!); he'd have to be one of my favourites. (I also like Clint Barton... for his tired, is-this-seriously-happening-dunno-but-I-can't-even-be-surprised-anymore faces). Elliot - I assume that's the dragon? I haven't seen Pete's Dragon, only the music video of Something Wild by Lindsey Stirling and Andrew McMahon - but that was pretty good.

And that's so sweet what your sister wrote! Does she write stories too?

*thinks about what my sisters might write about me* *sweats*

    1. It is indeed! She's probably my favorite Pevensie - but it would be terribly hard to chose ;). And YES, I definitely agree that Martin Freeman did an amazing job of playing Bilbo. I haven't seen any Marvel movies (yet), but I seriously need to at some point xD.

She used to write on and off, but writing really isn't her thing - she hobby is mostly photography ;).

Pleased to 'meet' you, too, Jem! Thanks for stopping by <3.

I'm kind of surprised you haven't ever read a book that's made you cry. But I am VERY emotional and books that aren't even sad make me cry. xD Have you read any of the old Elsie Dinsmore books?? They are really old Christian books. You would be crazy to not cry in the second book. xD

I've seen the first Pete's Dragon, which is amazing, but haven't watched the second one. I'm kind of afraid if I watched it that it would ruin the first movie since it's a lot different. ;)

  16. That Erin Hanson quote is one of my favorites, as well! I also love "Life is like a penny. You can spend it however you'd like, but you can only spend it once."

Not gonna lie, for a substantial part of BOFA I was wondering if they were actually going to kill off all the characters that died in the books. I mean, PJ did change the location of Angmar by over a hundred miles, so letting a few dwarves live wouldn't necessarily be beyond him. XD

BILBO BAGGINS IS AN EXCELLENT CHOICE. As for three of mine - I might have to go with Jack Sparrow, Thorin, and Javert.

So it surprised me and I was SAD about it - but I think that the movie worked better with them dying, honestly. *cringes because I still wish they all could have lived*

  17. I don't think I have a favorite screen character. I have MANY. Personally, I like characters in books better than characters in movies, but since you asked the question... Bilbo definitely makes the list. So does Aragorn. Okay, and Sherlock Holmes (I mean Benedict Cumberbatch!).
How have you never cried over a book?! I cry over every book I read, pretty much, including all the books I write. Maybe when I'm done writing my current book, you can read it :D But if you didn't cry over The Deathly Hallows, then you probably wouldn't cry over my own book. xD

Oooh, that For King and Country song was awesome! I barely ever listen to them which is SHAMEFUL. Every time I DO I really enjoy their music. I just...don't own any of their songs so I forget to give them a try.

The Hunger Games left me breathless, too! Gracious, that book. O_O It may be the most intense book I've ever read! (AndIloveitsoverymuch.)

Bilbo and Lucy are two of my favorite characters EVERRRR!!! And you CAN'T go wrong with Elliot. Hello? HE'S A DRAGON. AND A CUTE, SWEET, FUZZY DRAGON AT THAT.
"Do not question why only one character on my list is human. I don't have an answer xD." Bwahaha! Come on, who needs humans when there are DRAGONS and HOBBITS???

I looooved what you said about how the pen is mightier than the sword. I think people discount that phrase because it's used so much, but you explained its meaning PERFECTLY. "...a pen has the power to write a book that lasts through decades and can change lives. A pen has the power to hurt you emotionally." YESSSS.

Okay, THAT SONG. I can't even. "Such a wreck, but ain't love reckless. . . No parachute, but keep on jumpin'." I should listen to more For King and Country songs, because they always blow me away completely. The only others I've heard are Fix My Eyes and Priceless.

Whoa, whoa, wait--you've NEVER cried about a book? Haha, I've cried over so many! Little Women, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, Counted Worthy. . . That last one smashes ALL my feels every. singe. stinking. time. I read it!

Favorite screen character? Aragorn!! Shocker, right? I'm sure NOBODY saw that coming. *cough*
My most recently-discovered favorite screen character is Indiana Jones. Definitely some elements in those movies I didn't appreciate, but he was sure an awesome character!

"Do not question why only one character on my list is human. I don't have an answer." I'm not questioning--dragons and hobbits are my favorite fantasy creatures!!
Also, Elliot sounds so great! I saw the old version, but the dragon is pretty sad in that one--at least animation-wise. Becca, Spencer, and I talked about going to see the new one together, but we never got around to it. I'm thinking I should try to find a way to watch it! Haha, I knew that was what you were going to say ;). But I will admit, Aragorn is very incredibly awesome :D.

Yeah, Elliot in the old version isn't very well-animated xD. I think you'd LOVE the new version. Even if I hadn't enjoyed the movie on it's own (which I most definitely did), the character-building was great (I couldn't help looking at it through editor-eyes. I was editing Killing Snow while watching the movie - multi-tasking for the win xD)! You'll have to tell me what you think of it if you watch it ;).

  23. THIS WAS A GREAT POST I like how you combined all the questions into one huge tag response post. It was great knowing more about your writing <3

And I agree with the pen being sharper than a sword?! It has sounded more cliche over the years but when you think about it, it really is true!

  24. I LOVE FOR KIND AND COUTRY TOO AAAHHH LONG LIVE!!!! And you've never cried over a book?! I have, but I also cry during almost every movie. xD Favorite screen character... TOO HARD. One of my favorite quotes is from Katie Davis: I'm just an ordinary girl. An ordinary girl serving and extraordinary God.

    Loved this post!

  25. Pete's Dragon was so good! I don't think it got enough attention when it came out. *hugs Elliot*

Yes x100 about For King & Country! "Run Wild, Live Free, Love Strong" was one of my best album purchases EVER. It's one of those that I can listen to on repeat and not get tired of it.

Bilbo! Lucy! Elliot! <3 What if we smushed their names and called them Biluciot? (That was completely random and nonsensical, seeing as there's no reason to combine their names at all. Blame it on being sleepy. XD)

"I wasn't chased into the writing life by a sword. I was chased by an ink-filled pen." I LOVE THIS. XD

Well...being as you just finished catching up on tags, I feel a little silly dropping you a new one. Only do it if you want to, okay? https://traceydyck.blogspot.ca/2017/03/tag-3-sunshine-blogger-award.html

    1. Yeah, I think it deserved a lot more hype than it got. It was a wonderful movie! (also ELLIOT WAS FUZZY. I may or may not really love this fact xD)

"Run Wild, Live Free, Love Strong" is also on repeat a lot at our house, I love it SO much! <3 (Biluciot, haha - totally sounds like something my sisters and I would come up with when we're tired and hyper xD)

No, you're fine! I LOVE tags, even if I do get behind on them - I was excited to see that you'd tagged me! Thanks, friend ;).

  27. Yay! You did it! XD *bounces*

I loved reading through your answers. :3 And For King and Country! <3

My favorite screen character... is an impossible question. I had a hard enough time limiting it to 10. XP If I /had/ to name someone, then probably Fitz from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
My favorite quote's probably a toss up between Gandalf's "All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you." and Puddleglum's "I'm on Aslan's side even if there isn't any Aslan to lead it. I'm going to live as like a Narnian as I can even if there isn't any Narnia."

  29. Savannah, I noticed at the bottom of the page it says that nothing can be taken from this blog. In the past I saved the picture of the last quote. Was that ok? I just really liked it and would like to maybe reshare it on my blog sometime.
